Partnership Agreement between 6th Greenock & District (1st Gourock (CDO)) Scout Group and the Darroch Explorer Unit

This partnership agreement is between the 6th Greenock and District (1st Gourock (CDO)) Scout Group and the Darroch Explorer Unit, which forms part of the Explorer Scout provision within Greenock and District Scouts.

Membership of the unit is open primarily to 14-18 year olds within the catchement area of the Scout Group, although any explorer Scout from within Greenock and District may attend and participate in unit activities.

Management of the Group is the responsibility of the Group Scout leader. Management of the Explorer Scout Unit and associated Leaders lies with the District Explorer Scout Commisioner.

Name and Image

The Explorer unit will be a standalone function being named the Darroch Explorer Unit. The unit currently uses the Group neckie and dual title nametape. The ESL may change this arrangement in agreement with the DESC.

Young leaders working within the Group will wear the Group neckie and appropriate name tape.

The explorer unit may use the Group website for promoting events and publishing of reports and images.

The explorer unit may be asked to represent the Group at Local events e.g. remembrance day parade, Gourock Highland Games etc

Communication

Effective liaision between Group and Unit is essential. The ESL is invited to attend the Group leaders meeting. Other leaders and assistants may attend the meeting with invitation from the ESL and GSL

Young leaders who attend groups section activities must do so with the agreement of the ESL and GSL.

Standard sectional permission forms will be used for nights away / visits where the young leader is aged under 16.

Links between the Scout Group and the Explorer Scout Unit

The Scout Leaders, Explorer Leaders and Network representative will meet formally / informally 3 times per year to plan links between the sections to ensure smooth transition at the Moving in Moving on stages.

The Scout leader and Network representative will liaise with the district explorer Scout administrator (DESA) (or other nominee of the DESC) to ensure that all transitions are done timeously in accordance with POR.

Joint events will be run at regular intervals to assist in the transition process

Equipment facilities and resources

The Darroch Explorer Unit will meet in the Scout hall at Drumshantie Road, which is owned by the 6th Greenock and District Scout Group. No formal weekly letting charge exists but the Group may seek a contribution per member which will be set annually by the Group Executive Committtee.

The Explorer unit will normally meet on Wednesday evening between 7.30 and 10pm. They may use the facilties at other time by agreement with the Group Scout Leader.

The unit will liaise with the GSL in booking of Group resources which will be made available to the unit as far as practicable. A reciprocal arrangement will apply to unit resources.

The unit will be provided with access to Storage facilities within Drumshantie Rd HQ

Finance

The Darroch Explorer Scout Unit will manage its own finances. It will provide annual accounts, and submit headquartes membership fee to the District Tresurer.

Signatories to the Darroch Explorer Account shall be the ESL, GSL and at least 1 other nominated by the ESL.  Cheques shall require 2 signatories.

The Unit and the Scout Group will assist each other in fundraising activities.

The ESL may approach the Group for assistance in meeting the cost of training courses and or equipment.

The explorer Unit will safeguard any Group equipment and property whilst being used in their activities. Any loss or damage to Group equipment to be reported timeously to the GSL.

In the event of closure of the Explorer unit any group equipment will be returned to the group along with any outstanding financial obligations the remaing assets and funds will revert to the Greenock and District Scout Council

Review

The partnership may be reviewed informally annually at Group/ Unit meeting. Any changes to be agreed with the GSL, ESL and DESC
